This changes to its visa process is to take effect January 1, 2025.

As a result, applicants with interview appointments will now need to go to the Consulate General in Lagos twice as part of the application process.

This announcement however was made yesterday on the embassy’s official X page formerly known as twitter,Starting January 1, 2025.

Consequently, applicants with scheduled interviews are now expected to visit the Consulate General in Lagos twice, as part of the application procedure.

The embassy explained on its website that the new process aims to help applicants prepare for their visa interviews and avoid major delays in processing immigrant visas.

As outlined, the first visit will involve an “In-Person Document Review” with a consular staff member. This step ensures applicants have all required documents before their visa interviews, allowing them to address any missing items and avoid delays.

The second visit will be the visa interview itself, conducted by a consular officer. This appointment will be scheduled by the National Visa Center (NVC). Furthermore the embassy also warned that applicants who skip the document review step will need to reschedule their visa interviews.

These changes, according to the US embassy, are intended to improve efficiency and minimize delays caused by incomplete documentation.
