The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old man over alleged impersonation and an attempted robbery involving what was later discovered to be a toy pistol.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement issued in Katsina on Monday.

According to the police, the suspect was arrested after a report was received on August 22 at about 7:00 p.m. concerning an alleged robbery attempt.

Sadiq-Aliyu said the suspect was reportedly seen chasing an unidentified person while pointing what appeared to be a pistol at the victim.

The action allegedly created the impression that the suspect was armed and attempting to rob the victim.

Following the report, police operatives moved to the scene and arrested the suspect.

During preliminary investigation, the weapon allegedly used in the incident was identified as a toy pistol.

The police said the suspect was also being investigated for alleged impersonation in connection with the incident.

The Command assured residents that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly, adding that appropriate legal action would be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.

The police further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
