On Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at 4:30 p.m., a little girl was brought to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, CRS, by a police officer from Atakpa Police Station, CRS.
According to the police report, one bassey Alfred Bassey, who is a hunter and lives in the Calabar South Local Government Area, was in the charge room of the police station at about 2000 hours and reported that during routine patrol at the Etim Edem Park, he saw a little girl by the name of Favor Akpan sitting on the floor. He asked what she was doing there; she said she was living with a certain woman (name unknown) at Eket in Akwa Ibom State, and that the woman boarded a bus, put her in it, paid the driver, and asked him to drop her at Etim Edem Park and that someone would be there to pick her. He further stated that he had seen her earlier in the day, and since nobody came for her, it was wise for him to do the right thing by taking her to the police station.
All efforts to reach out to the lady in Eket or the person expecting her in Calabar have proved abortive since September 19, 2023, as nobody has shown up looking for her.
Dr. Egodo facilitated an arrangement for her to be taken to an orphanage and brought back on Thursday, September 28th, where she will be taken to the Ministry of Social Welfare and Community Development and the Ministry of Women Affairs for further interrogation, investigation, procedures, return, or adoption, as the case may be.
We are also using this medium to call on the general public, especially individuals who may have sensitive information that can help to re-unite the young girl with her family, to kindly contact Miss Racheal Bassey at 09063097016.
