I have no regrets supporting Governor Otu, rotation of power has come to stay — Gershom Bassey

 

In a resounding display of commitment to the BackToSouth agenda and the unity of the People\’s Democratic Party (PDP), former governorship aspirant and Senator Gershom Bassey affirmed his unwavering support for Governor Prince Bassey Edet Otu.

During an interactive session with PDP stakeholders in Calabar, Senator Gershom Bassey voiced his resolute stance, stating that he has no regrets supporting Governor Otu, as the rotation of power has come to stay in Cross River State.

Senator Gershom Bassey, who had once vied for the governorship position, made it clear that his support for Governor Otu is rooted in the principle of power rotation, which has been a long-standing tradition in the state.

He stated that the BackToSouth agenda is not solely about him but is a collective effort to promote unity and inclusivity in Cross River State.

Addressing the gathering, Senator Bassey shared an anecdote of his commitment, stating, \”I told Sandy I can\’t support him when former Governor Liyel Imoke asked him to talk to me a few days before the elections.\”

Furthermore, he urged PDP stakeholders to continue supporting Governor Prince Bassey Edet Otu and advised them to engage constructively by providing feedback on his programs.

He expressed confidence in Governor Otu\’s leadership, asserting, \”I\’m optimistic that Gov Otu will end well. The government has just started.\”

He said;

\”I told Sandy I can’t support him when former Governor Liyel Imoke asked him to talk to me a few days to elections.

\”I want to admonish you all to keep faith with Prince Otu. He is a product of BackToSouth. We should pray and advise him where necessary. He will also do the same. He is a listening type and open for advice. When you hear about any deficiency in any part of the state, call him, sms him, and he will listen. \”

\”Give him feedback of his programs. Don’t join others in hate speech because I\’m optimistic that Gov Otu will end well. The government has just started. \”

 

In response to Senator Bassey\’s declaration of support, Hon Emmanuel Etene, speaking on behalf of the party\’s stakeholders, reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to him.

He appealed to Senator Bassey to forgive those who may have betrayed him during the primary, particularly from the southern senatorial district of the state, indicating that many of them now regret their actions.

Hon Etene also called upon Senator Gershom Bassey to play a pivotal role in rebuilding the party and welcoming his guidance.

The gathering concluded with Hon. Emmanuel Etene\’s announcement of plans to host Senator Gershom Bassey before December, reinforcing their collective commitment to unity within the party.
