Ibrahim Lamorde, the former chairman of the anti-graft agency, EFCC, is dead. He was 61.
Mr Lamorde died in Egypt where he had travelled for medical treatment.

The Nigerian Police hired Mr. Lamorde in 1986 after he was born on December 20, 1962, and he retired as a deputy inspector general of police in 2021. He presided over the EFCC as its chairman from 2011 to 2015 while still a police officer. The third Executive Chairman of the Commission was Mr. Lamorde. On November 3, 2011, he was named Chairman of the Commission in an acting capacity after President Goodluck Jonathan dismissed Farida Waziri. On February 15, 2012, the Senate confirmed him as the third substantive Chairman of the Commission.
Born in Mubi, Adamawa State, on December 20, 1962, Mr. Lamorde attended Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, where he earned his bachelor\’s degree in sociology in 1984. In 1986, he enlisted in the Nigerian Police Force. Mr. Lamorde was appointed the first Director of Operations at the establishment of the EFCC in 2003. He assumed the role of Acting Chairman in December 2007 and remained in that capacity until Mrs. Waziri was appointed Chairperson and the Senate ratified her appointment in June 2008. After serving as Acting Director of Operations for a while, Mr. Lamorde rejoined the EFCC in December 2010 and took over as Director of Operations once more, replacing Stephen Otitoju.
On November 23, 2011, Mr. Lamorde, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) at the time, was once more named Acting Chairman following the replacement of Mrs. Waziri. On February 15, 2012, he was officially confirmed as the EFCC\’s substantive chairman. He served in that capacity until President Buhari appointed Ibrahim Magu to the post on November 9, 2015.
