The South-South branch of the National Association of Nigeria Student Nurses and Midwives (NANSNM) conferred a Patron Award on the Special Assistant to the Cross River State Governor on Nursing, Mr. Coco-Bassey Esu in recognition of his outstanding contributions, and commitment to the welfare of nursing students and the development of the nursing profession in Cross River State.

The Patron Award was presented to Mr. Esu by the Zonal President of NANSNM, South-South, Comrade Anene Treasure, who led a delegation of her executive members to formally decorate him with the award.
In her speech, Comrade Anene thanked His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Otu, for appointing Mr. Coco-Bassey Esu as the first nurse to hold such a position, affirming that his capabilities are beyond question. She described him as a square peg in a square hole and a mentor to the younger generation of nurses.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Coco-Bassey expressed his gratitude to the association for recognizing him with the award. He stated that the honour serves as an encouragement and motivation for him to continue mentoring and contributing to effective patient care, nursing education, research, administration, and professional development of Nurses. This aligns with Governor Bassey Otu’s “People First” mantra, which prioritizes the needs and health of the people of Cross River State.
