The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Cross River State Chapter, led by Comr. Emmanuel Olayi, held a press conference at the National Union of Journalists Secretariat, tagged World Press Conference, the 2024 Cross River State Local Government Election; Local government a tool for humanity and community development on October 26, 2024.
In his remarks, Comr. Emmanuel Olayi explained that the press conference aimed to advocate for peace and raise awareness on the recent electoral processes within the state, emphasizing that the local government administration concerns all citizens.
On behalf of the state’s youth, Emmanuel expressed sincere gratitude to His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, Governor of Cross River State, for his dedication to democratic principles. He commended the Governor’s leadership and the efforts of the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) in preparing for the upcoming Local Government Elections on November 2, 2024, and for appointing young people to key positions. Emmanuel noted that these actions reflect the government’s commitment to bolstering democracy and promoting good governance at the local level.
He also acknowledged political parties at the world press conference 2024 for including young people in their candidate selections and urged the youth to abstain from any fraudulent activities in the upcoming elections.
The NUJ Chairman, Comr. Archibong Bassey, praised NYCN Cross River State Chapter and Comr. Emmanuel Olayi for their commitment to transparent reporting and their efforts in supporting a fair electoral process. Archibong assured the NYCN of accurate and comprehensive media coverage throughout the electoral period.
During the conference, Comr. Olayi addressed questions from the audience, clarifying the role of NYCN CRS in the upcoming local elections, their efforts to advocate for road repairs in Cross River State, and youth engagement in sports. He also clarified that the press release was independent of any specific political party.
In response to these questions, Comr. Emmanuel Olayi reassured Cross Riverians that NYCN-CRS would remain dedicated to its mission and continue to serve the youth of Cross River State with integrity.
