PDP denies Jonathan 2027 presidential Ticket

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has denied rumors that it is urging former President Goodluck Jonathan to run for the 2027 presidential election under its platform.

Reasons why PDP denies Jonathan 2027 presidential Ticket

PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, clarified this in an interview with BBC Hausa, stating that the party has not offered Jonathan its presidential ticket or asked him to join the race.

Abdullahi said, “The claim that the PDP has given its presidential ticket to former President Goodluck Jonathan or invited him to run in the 2027 election is untrue.

Here’s what happened: a journalist asked me during an interview for my thoughts on Jonathan, following reports that some people are encouraging him to run for president.”

In response, Abdullahi explained that he only pointed out Jonathan’s legal right to run for president since he still has one term left, but this does not mean the PDP plans to involve him in the 2027 election.

“I said Jonathan is eligible to run because the law allows him to, as a Nigerian. He still has one term remaining.

There’s nothing wrong if he decides to contest, but that doesn’t mean the PDP has contacted him or offered him the ticket,” he clarified

Abdullahi emphasized that the PDP has already done a lot for Jonathan and has no reason to pursue him. He pointed out that the party has 12 governors and many capable politicians who can run for the presidency.

He also mentioned a past statement by Jonathan’s wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, where she said her husband had no plans to return to Aso Villa because he left nothing behind that would make him.

A ticket is given to someone who has shown interest. Not long ago, his wife said he wouldn’t run for president again. So how could we even consider him?” Abdullahi questioned.

He concluded by stating that the PDP has not had any discussions with Jonathan about the 2027 election, adding that the party is currently focused on its pool of qualified and capable candidates.
