The Executive Chairman of Biase Local Government Area, Hon. Edodi Eyong Edodi, has fulfilled a major campaign promise by awarding scholarships worth millions of naira to 120 students of Biase origin in tertiary institutions. The official presentation took place at the Council Secretariat in Akpet Central.
During the well-attended ceremony, Hon. Edodi Eyong Edodi expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve and commended the scholarship committee for its transparency, fairness, and commitment to merit-based selection. According to him, each community was given a clear directive to nominate at least one or two beneficiaries from a pool of ten candidates per ward. He also responded to concerns from applicants who were not selected by personally including ten additional names as a goodwill gesture.
In his announcement, the Chairman disclosed that each postgraduate beneficiary would receive ₦250,000, while undergraduates would receive ₦200,000.
Dr. (Mrs.) Glory Egong, Secretary of the Scholarship Committee, praised the Chairman’s unwavering dedication to education and applauded him for keeping his word. She clarified that the initiative was indeed a true scholarship program driven by merit, and encouraged beneficiaries to utilize the funds wisely.
The event was marked by jubilant celebrations from students, who sang praises of the Chairman, including chants like:
“Na fake, na fake, na fake student!
Any student wey e no sabi Edodi, na fake student!”
