Renowned elder statesman and respected political figure, Chief James Alicha Okpamu, has showered praise on the leadership of Cross River North Senatorial District under the stewardship of High Chief Higgins Peter, H.E Peter Odey, Prof. Zana Akpagu, and Rt. Hon. Lego Idagbo, for their visionary role in engineering the formation of the Northern Cross River State Coalition (NORTHCO), a coalition of stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River North.

Speaking on the sidelines of a condolence visit paid to the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, H.E Peter Odey, at his Ogoja residence over the loss of his beloved sister, on Saturday, May 3, 2025.

Chief Alicha described the formation of NORTHCO as “an admirable milestone” that has strengthened party cohesion, deepened stakeholder engagement, and enhanced unity of purpose within the APC fold in the northern part of the state.

“What High Chief Higgins Peter, H.E Peter Odey, Prof. Zana Akpagu, and Rt. Hon. Lego Idagbo have done with the formation of NORTHCO is nothing short of impressive and has brought the party together in ways never seen before.”

He further noted that such an organized framework of collaboration has rekindled hope and created a more cohesive platform for party leaders across the district to operate as a family and also used the occasion to preach the gospel of unity, team spirit, love, and collective focus.

As a party, what we need more than ever is unity, togetherness, and shared goals. This is because individualism has no place in our collective struggle. We must learn to walk and work together if we are to conquer new frontiers and keep the APC strong in Cross River North.”

Conclusively, he also reserved commendation for Chief Mark Nomba, an influential APC stalwart from Cross River Central, who made time to be part of the visit to the Deputy Governor, describing the gesture as a powerful symbol of regional cooperation, collaboration, and integration within the party.

“Chief Mark Nomba’s presence here today, coming all the way from the Central Senatorial District, is a testimony that APC in Cross River is moving towards one indivisible political family. That level of empathy and solidarity must be encouraged and emulated,” he said.

The visit, which saw an array of political dignitaries, party faithfuls, and sympathizers in Ogoja, served not only as a moment of mourning and solidarity with H.E Peter Odey and his family, but also a subtle yet impactful moment of political reflection and renewed commitment among leaders of the APC in Cross River North.

And, as NORTHCO continue to gain traction among party ranks and stakeholders, many political observers believe it might become a model for other senatorial districts across the state to emulate prioritizing inclusivity in the management of party affairs and the pursuit of shared political aspirations.
