Governor Otu’s Bold Move Sets Cross River Nursing Colleges on Path to Global Standards

The Special Assistant to the Governor of Cross River State on Nursing, Mr. Esu Coco-Bassey, has called on Chairmen, Provosts, and Principal Officers of Colleges of Nursing Sciences in Cross River State to unite in strengthening the profession through policy initiatives and advocacy during a recent visit to his office. This call aims to elevate nursing education and practices in Cross River State to international standards, positioning it as a model for others, as the College of Nursing, Itigidi, has already set a precedent in the south eastern region by commencing HND Nursing programs.

Mr. Esu emphasized that the Governor’s appointment of experienced Nursing academicians and clinical practitioners to key positions in nursing boards and management would position the colleges for potential university status. He acknowledged that this process requires collaboration, not individual efforts, and commended the colleges for their teamwork.

College of Nursing Itigidi, has already set a precedent in the south eastern region by commencing HND Nursing programs.
The Special Assistant assured the colleges of the Governor’s support for full accreditation of programs approved by regulatory bodies and infrastructure projects to enhance college facilities. Mr. Esu pledged to work closely with stakeholders, including Provosts, Chairmen, and principal officers, to achieve institutional goals.

Prof. Margaret Opia, Chairman of Chairmen of Colleges of Nursing in Cross River State, congratulated Mr. Esu Coco-Bassey on his appointment and appreciated his advocacy visit to both teaching and clinical services. She believed that the reports gathered would help strengthen the institution. Prof. Opia added that together, they aim to realize the Governor’s vision of educational excellence and professional growth for the nursing profession in Cross River State.
The visit, attended by all Chairmen, Provosts, and Principal Officers of Colleges of Nursing in Cross River State, marked a significant step towards achieving this goal.
