Wilsmasha, born Eric Ilodi Nwakwudo, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and music producer carving a unique space in the Afro-fusion soundscape. Hailing from Awka in Anambra State, Nigeria, his musical journey began at a very young age.
Growing up, he was deeply influenced by the sounds of legendary Highlife icons such as Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe, Oliver De Coque, and Bright Chimezie, whose music frequently played in his home. As he entered his teenage years, his sonic exposure expanded to Pop, R&B, Afrobeats, and Hip-hop through his elder brothers’ music collections.
Musical Influences & Sound
Artistically, Wilsmasha draws inspiration from global superstars like Usher, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, and the legendary Michael Jackson.
His sound is best described as a fusion of Pop and R&B layered with African and Caribbean influences — delivering what he proudly calls “Afro-fusion magic.”
Early Beginnings of Wilsmasha: From Classroom Performances to GreenLight Clan
During high school, Wilsmasha developed a strong passion for literature and poetry, which sharpened his songwriting skills. He would often perform for classmates — sometimes standing on classroom desks between lessons.
He entered a singing competition at his school chapel, where he and a friend performed an original song they had written together. That creative spark later led to the formation of a now-defunct three-man group known as GreenLight Clan.
Academic Excellence & The Leap of Faith
Wilsmasha holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Applied Biochemistry from Nnamdi Azikiwe University. After graduation, he worked in the medical sales industry for a few years while consistently performing at karaoke bars with friends.
However, his passion for music proved impossible to ignore. He eventually made the bold decision to step away from his corporate career and pursue music full-time. He further honed his craft by studying record production and beat-making from his home studio.
