Written by Mary Bassey

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on local government areas across the state to step up efforts towards maintaining cleaner and healthier communities through a cleanliness competition.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to monthly environmental sanitation, stressing the importance of collective responsibility in keeping Lagos clean.

Sanwo-Olu urged local government authorities to take environmental cleanliness seriously by improving waste management, ensuring proper drainage maintenance and encouraging residents to adopt better sanitation practices.

The proposed cleanliness competition is expected to motivate local councils to improve their environmental standards and promote healthy competition in maintaining clean surroundings.

He also emphasised that keeping Lagos clean should not be left to the government alone, urging residents, community leaders and other stakeholders to play active roles in protecting the environment.

The governor reiterated that regular environmental sanitation remains an important part of his administration’s efforts to promote public health, prevent environmental pollution and improve the overall living conditions of residents.

The renewed emphasis on monthly sanitation is expected to strengthen environmental awareness and encourage greater participation in keeping communities across Lagos State clean.
