A 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager, Javits Frimpong, has been fatally shot while on his way to school in the Bronx, New York, in an incident that has raised concerns about school bullying and youth violence.
Javits, who reportedly moved to the United States from Ghana about a year ago, was shot in the stomach near Fulton Avenue and East 171st Street, close to Crotona Park, shortly before 9:30 a.m. on Thursday.
He was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital for medical attention but later died from his injuries.
His father, Thomas Frimpong, described him as a quiet and reserved boy. He also expressed concerns that the shooting might be connected to bullying his son had allegedly experienced at school.
According to reports, three teenagers fled the scene after the shooting, prompting police to launch a search for the suspects.
As of the time of reporting, no arrests had been announced, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death were ongoing.
The incident has renewed concerns about teenage violence, bullying and the safety of students in schools and their surrounding communities.
