Residents of Shikpeche Community in Obanliku have raised concerns over the lack of access to clean and safe drinking water, calling on an aide to the Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Edet Otu, to urgently intervene.

In a video circulating online, a resident of the community appealed to the Senior Special Assistant on New Media Advocacy, Friday Awade, popularly known as “Last Prophet,” to draw government attention to the situation.

The video shows community members fetching water from a shallow source described as unsafe and far from residential areas. According to the resident, the water source is located miles away, making access difficult, especially for women, children, and the elderly who depend on it daily.

He further explained that despite the poor quality appearing dirty and slow-flowing the water is still being used for drinking, cooking, and other household needs due to the absence of alternatives.

Describing the situation as a serious health risk, the resident made a passionate appeal for urgent government intervention, noting that the current condition poses a threat to the lives and wellbeing of the people.

As of the time of this report, Friday Awade has not issued any official response regarding the concerns raised by the community.
