Dr. Coco-Bassey Esu, Special Assistant to the Governor of Cross River State on Nursing, paid a working visit to Alh. Dr. Ndagi Alhassan, CEO/ Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), and Comrd Haruna Mamman, National President of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), in Abuja.
During his meeting with the Registrar of the Council, Dr. Esu congratulated Alh. Dr. Ndagi on his new position, citing his expertise and commitment to advancing the nursing profession. He assured the NMCN of Governor Bassey Otu’s administration’s support for the growth of nursing, particularly through the allocation of a plot of land for the construction of a zonal office in Cross River State, and promise collaboration with the Council to secure state representation at the NMCN.
Responding, Alh. Dr. Ndagi expressed his commitment to working with the Cross River State Government to enhance nursing education and practice. He applauded the state governor for appointing nurses to different positions in the government and urged the appointees to utilize their positions effectively to promote best practices in the profession.
In another development, Dr. Esu met with the President of National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives NANNM. He commended the union for ensuring key leadership positions were held by Cross River State representatives, including Dr. Ojong Ogar as the National Financial Secretary of the Association. He emphasized the importance of cordial relations between state and national executive councils for effective administration. He praised the Association for securing the hosting right for the forth coming Commonwealth conference for nurses and midwives and prayed for the success of the program
The National President applauded the Cross River State Government for creating a dedicated office for nurses, appointing nurses to key positions, and employing nursing professionals, which he noted was worthy of recognition by the highest body of NANNM. He noted that efforts were underway to review the Nursing and Midwifery Act by the National Assembly, aiming to strengthen the profession nationwide.
Every step, action, and activity taken are aimed at promoting excellence in nursing education and practice.
