TRAMRA Officer Allegedly Stabbed to Death by Commercial Bus Driver in Calabar

A traffic enforcement officer attached to the Traffic Management and Regulatory Agency (TRAMRA) has reportedly lost his life after being stabbed by a commercial mini bus driver during a routine traffic operation in Calabar South.

The tragic incident occurred on Monday, May 25, 2026, at about 10:00 a.m., while the officer was carrying out traffic control and enforcement duties aimed at maintaining order and safety on the roads.

According to a statement issued by TRAMRA’s Public Relations Unit, the officer, who was unarmed and in uniform, was allegedly attacked without provocation and stabbed in the chest with a screwdriver by the driver.

Despite efforts to save him, the officer later died from the injuries sustained.

Reacting to the incident, TRAMRA strongly condemned the killing, describing it as a brutal attack on public officers dedicated to protecting lives and ensuring smooth traffic flow.

The agency stated that the matter has been reported to the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies, while demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of the suspect.

TRAMRA also urged commercial drivers, transport unions, and members of the public to shun violence and cooperate with traffic officials, stressing that attacks on enforcement officers threaten public safety and law and order.
