UNICROSS Concern Students Send Message To Gov. Otu On The Ongoing ASUU Strike

Written by calabarGist

The Concerned Students of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) are calling on the Governor of Cross River State to urgently intervene and resolve the ongoing dispute between the Cross River State Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU-UNICROSS Branch).

The indefinite strike action declared by ASUU has brought academic activities in the institution to a standstill, leaving thousands of students frustrated, uncertain, and emotionally distressed about their future. Education remains the backbone of every progressive society, and the continued closure of the institution is negatively affecting students and their families across the state.

Democracy Day May 28: UNICROSS Concern Students Reminds Gov. Otu Of Ongoing ASUU Strike

We respectfully urge His Excellency, the Governor of Cross River State, to immediately engage with the leadership of ASUU-UNICROSS and address all outstanding issues, including unpaid salaries, welfare packages, allowances, and other agreements affecting lecturers and the university system.

WE THEREFORE DEMAND THAT ALL ISSUES BETWEEN THE CROSS RIVER STATE GOVERNMENT AND ASUU-UNICROSS BE SETTLED BEFORE MONDAY.

Failure to urgently resolve the ongoing strike action will leave students with no option but to publicly withdraw their support ahead of the 2027 elections.

HIS EXCELLENCY SHOULD CONSIDER THAT HE MAY NOT RECEIVE SUPPORT OR VOTES FROM STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CROSS RIVER STATE (UNICROSS) IN THE UPCOMING 2027 ELECTION IF THE EDUCATIONAL SECTOR CONTINUES TO BE NEGLECTED.

Education is the foundation of development, and the future of thousands of students must not be sacrificed for politics. We call on the government to act immediately in the interest of peace, progress, and the future of Cross River State.

We remain hopeful that the government will act swiftly in the interest of peace, progress, and the future of education in Cross River State.
