The OBIdient Movement Cross River Raises Concerns Over NDC Governorship Zoning, Primary Process

Written by calabarGist

The OBIdient Movement (TOM), Cross River State Chapter, has raised serious concerns regarding the conduct of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) leadership ahead of the party’s governorship primaries in the state.

In a press statement released today, 29th May 2026, at 11:00 am, the group alleged that the existing zoning arrangement favouring the Southern Senatorial District is being undermined by the party leadership.

According to the statement, the movement expressed dissatisfaction that a governorship aspirant from the Northern Senatorial District is being allowed to contest against the long-standing zoning and rotational arrangement that has existed in Cross River State since 1999.

The group further alleged a lack of transparency concerning the forthcoming primaries, stating that many aspirants, including members of the OBIdient Movement, are not being adequately informed or carried along in the process.

“There is zero communication from the party secretariat, and we seem to just be acting on rumors and third-party speculations,” the statement read. “This leaves us to suspect that secret primaries are being held without the knowledge of both voters and aspirants.”

The movement also questioned the objectivity of the National Delegation they reportedly met with on Wednesday, alleging that the committee appeared to have a preset agenda that does not reflect the best interests of the party and its presidential candidate.

The statement noted that these developments have created growing concerns and doubts among party members in the state and called on the national leadership of the party to take urgent steps to address the issues and prevent internal crises.

The statement was signed on behalf of The OBIdient Movement (TOM), Cross River State, by:
