The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), bringing relief to thousands of Junior Secondary School students across Nigeria.

The results were approved following the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

In a statement issued on Thursday by NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, the Council disclosed that 186,291 candidates from the 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and five foreign countries registered for the examination in 12 subjects. The examination was conducted between April 20 and April 30, 2026.

According to the statement, the Award Committee, chaired by Dr. Folake Olatunji-David, Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, who represented the Minister of Education, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the examination and the processes leading to the release of the results.

The committee also approved July 22 and 23, 2026, for the conduct of the 2026 BECE Re-sit Examination in Mathematics and English Studies.

NECO explained that the re-sit examination is intended for candidates with deficiencies in either Mathematics, English Studies, or both subjects. The exercise will enable affected students to obtain the required certification for admission into Senior Secondary School One (SSS1) without repeating an academic year.

The Council reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the integrity and credibility of its examinations while ensuring that eligible candidates are given fair opportunities to progress academically.
