The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Obubra Local Government Area has inaugurated a Peace and Reconciliation Committee as part of efforts to strengthen internal unity and prepare the party for future electoral success.
The committee was officially inaugurated on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, by the APC Obubra Chapter Chairman, Hon. Lucky Nicolas Okpechi, who charged members to discharge their responsibilities with diligence, fairness, and unwavering commitment.
The newly constituted committee is chaired by Elder John Agbor, with Bishop Chris Obasse serving as Alternate Chairman, while Lt. Col. Francis Oyom (Rtd.) was appointed Secretary.
Other members include Mr. Dylan Ovat, Hon. Agbor Mgbongha, Prof. Erena Enang, and Prof. Friday Ajie Ovat.
Committee’s Terms of Reference
During the inauguration, Hon. Okpechi outlined the committee’s mandate, which includes:
- Engaging aspirants, candidates, party officials, stakeholders, and aggrieved members to identify the causes of internal disagreements.
- Promoting dialogue, understanding, forgiveness, and reconciliation among party members.
- Recommending practical measures to strengthen party unity, discipline, and cohesion.
- Encouraging all members to support duly nominated candidates and work towards the overall success of the APC in forthcoming elections.
- Identifying issues capable of undermining party harmony and proposing lasting solutions.
- Submitting a comprehensive report of its findings and recommendations to the party leadership within 10 days of its inauguration.
- Performing any additional functions necessary to foster peace, unity, and reconciliation within the party.
Council Chairman Calls for Immediate Action
In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Obubra Local Government Council, Hon. Kingsley Ibon Arikpo, commended the party leadership for setting up the committee and described the initiative as a timely step toward consolidating unity within the APC.
He urged members of the committee to commence work immediately and execute their assignment with fairness, impartiality, integrity, and dedication.
Hon. Arikpo also assured the committee of his support, pledging to provide any necessary assistance required to enable them to successfully deliver on their mandate within the stipulated timeframe.
The inauguration marks another effort by the APC in Obubra to resolve internal differences, strengthen party cohesion, and position the party for greater success in future political engagements.
