Security operatives at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, in Plateau State, successfully foiled another attempted attack by suspected gunmen late Wednesday night, killing one of the assailants during an exchange of gunfire. The attackers attempted to breach the institute’s security perimeter at about 11:00 p.m. but were met with fierce resistance from security personnel stationed at the facility. The ensuing gun battle forced the remaining attackers to flee the scene.

Sources familiar with the incident disclosed that the security operatives maintained control of the area throughout the confrontation, preventing the assailants from gaining access to the institute. The body of one suspected attacker was reportedly recovered after the exchange, while efforts are underway to track down the fleeing suspects.

The latest attack comes amid growing security concerns in parts of Plateau State, where incidents involving armed groups have continued to pose threats to lives and strategic public institutions. NIPSS, Nigeria’s foremost policy and leadership training institute, has remained under heightened security due to its national importance.

As of the time of filing this report, no casualties were reported among security personnel or staff of the institute. Authorities are expected to launch a full investigation into the attack to determine the identities of the assailants and the motive behind the attempted breach.

Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, while residents of the Kuru community have called for increased surveillance and stronger security measures around the institute to prevent future attacks.
