Former IGP Suleiman Abba Dumps APC for PDP, Boosts Opposition in Jigawa

Written by Mary Bassey

Former Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has officially defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), marking a significant political development in Jigawa State.

Abba announced his defection on Saturday during a political rally held in Bamaina, the hometown of former Jigawa State Governor and prominent PDP leader, Sule Lamido. He was warmly received by top PDP officials, party members, and supporters who gathered to welcome him into the opposition party.

The former police chief’s move is seen as a major boost for the PDP in Jigawa ahead of future political activities, given his influence and national profile.

Speaking at the rally, PDP leaders described Abba’s decision as a sign of growing confidence in the party and expressed optimism that his experience and leadership would strengthen the PDP’s structure in the state.

Although Abba did not publicly outline detailed reasons for leaving the APC, his defection adds to the series of political realignments taking place across the country as parties reposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Political observers believe the development could reshape the political landscape in Jigawa, where both the APC and PDP continue to compete for dominance.
