Written by Mary Bassey

A joint security operation involving the Delta State SafeCity Security Service and operatives of the Delta State Police Command has led to the arrest of a suspected notorious kidnapper, Abubakar Usman, in a forest hideout within the state.

The suspect, who had reportedly been on the security agencies’ wanted list, was apprehended during an operation launched after the abduction of Mrs. Blessing Chiedu, an indigene of Umunede Kingdom.

Mrs. Chiedu was kidnapped on July 2, 2026, along the Ani-Ifekide Farm Road in Ubulu-Uku, Delta State. According to reports, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N100 million from her family in exchange for her release.

The spokesperson for the SafeCity Security Service, Harrison Gwamnishu, disclosed the arrest in a post shared on X on Wednesday. He described the operation as a result of sustained collaboration between the state’s security outfit and the Delta State Police Command in the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes.

The arrest is expected to aid ongoing investigations and efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating in parts of Delta State. Security agencies have assured residents of their continued commitment to protecting lives and property while intensifying operations against criminal elements across the state.

Further details on the investigation are expected to be released by the authorities.
