Police Arrest Three Women in Anambra Over Alleged Sale of Four-Year-Old Boy for N2 Million

Written by Mary Bassey

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested three women over their alleged involvement in a child trafficking operation that led to the sale of a four-year-old boy for N2 million.

The suspects, identified as Florence Nnakuzie (45), Hannah Ugah (52), and Chinasa Daniel (27), were apprehended by operatives attached to the Awada Divisional Headquarters during an intelligence-led operation at a motor park in Onitsha.

Confirming the arrest in a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, alleged that the three women are members of a child trafficking syndicate known for trafficking children and selling them to prospective buyers for various sums of money.

According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly facilitated the sale of a four-year-old boy for N2 million. The child has since been rescued and is currently in protective custody while efforts are underway to reunite him with his biological family.

Ikenga stated that the suspects are assisting investigators with useful information that could lead to the arrest of other members of the syndicate and the rescue of more victims.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State reiterated the command’s commitment to combating child trafficking and other forms of organised crime, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.

The police said investigations are ongoing, while the suspects are expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
