Venezuela Earthquake Death Toll Climbs to 4,490 as Thousands Remain Displaced

Written by Mary Bassey

The death toll from the devastating twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela has risen to 4,490, according to the latest figures released by the government on Sunday.

In an update shared via the government’s official Telegram channel, authorities said 16,740 people have been injured, while more than 19,500 survivors are currently living in temporary camps after their homes were destroyed or rendered uninhabitable.

The latest figures represent an increase of about 150 deaths compared to the previous day’s official update, highlighting the growing scale of the disaster as rescue and recovery efforts continue.

Emergency responders remain on the ground searching for survivors, clearing debris, and delivering humanitarian assistance to affected communities. Thousands of families have also been left without shelter, prompting authorities and aid agencies to expand relief operations.

The government has yet to provide an updated estimate of the number of people still missing, raising concerns that the death toll could increase further as search efforts continue.

The twin earthquakes caused widespread destruction across several communities, damaging homes, public infrastructure, and essential services. Humanitarian agencies continue to monitor the situation while providing food, medical care, clean water, and temporary shelter to displaced residents.
