The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 44-year-old content creator, popularly known as Odogwu Asaba, over the alleged rape of a 21-year-old woman who reportedly died by suicide after the incident.
The command’s spokesperson confirmed that the suspect is in police custody and that investigations into the case are ongoing.
According to preliminary findings, the deceased, whose identity has been withheld, was allegedly lured to Asaba by the suspect with promises of assistance and support. It was further alleged that she was sexually assaulted after arriving in the city.
The young woman was later reported to have taken her own life, an incident that has sparked widespread outrage on social media and renewed calls for justice.
Police said the suspect was arrested following a complaint and that detectives have commenced a full investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and the victim’s death.
The Delta State Police Command assured the public that the case would be thoroughly investigated and that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
Authorities also urged members of the public to avoid spreading unverified information online while investigations continue.
