The Federal Government has approved N3.6 billion to empower tailors across Nigeria under the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) Skill Up Artisans (SUPA) Programme, a key initiative aimed at boosting vocational skills, creating jobs and strengthening the country’s informal sector.
The Director-General and Chief Executive of the ITF, Dr. Afiz Ogun, disclosed this on Wednesday during the nationwide screening of applicants for the 2026 SUPA programme in Abuja.
According to Ogun, the intervention is part of the Federal Government’s commitment to equipping artisans with industry-relevant skills that will improve productivity, enhance employability and increase their competitiveness in both local and international markets.
He explained that the nationwide screening exercise was introduced to ensure that only genuine and qualified artisans benefit from the programme, adding that successful applicants would be profiled based on their career paths and business needs.
Ogun said beneficiaries would either be prepared for international employment opportunities, matched directly with employers seeking skilled workers, or enrolled in a structured business incubation programme designed to help them establish and grow sustainable enterprises.
He noted that the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s broader agenda of reducing unemployment, promoting entrepreneurship and developing a highly skilled workforce capable of driving economic growth.
The ITF Skill Up Artisans Programme is one of the Federal Government’s flagship vocational development initiatives focused on upgrading the skills of artisans in various trades while improving service delivery and raising professional standards across the informal economy.
