Ondo Pastor Makes Surprising Spiritual Switch, Announces New Ifá Identity

Written by Mary Bassey

A cleric in Ondo State, Pastor Olabanjo Felix Gold, has announced a major change in his spiritual path, saying he has moved from Christianity to Ìṣẹ̀ṣe, the traditional Yoruba religious and spiritual system.

Olabanjo, formerly associated with the Image of God Evangelical and Prophetic Ministries, made the announcement in a video shared online.

In the video, he introduced himself by a new spiritual identity, saying he is now Ifawamiri Aworan Olodumare, a Babalawo of Ifá.

He also expressed appreciation to his spiritual mentor, whom he identified as Aifuwapẹ Oluṣẹgun Latunji, the Araba of Isararemọ, for his guidance and support.

The cleric thanked others who, according to him, had supported him throughout his spiritual journey and acknowledged the role of traditional elders in his new path.

Explaining his position, Olabanjo criticised foreign religions and declared that Ìṣẹ̀ṣe was, in his view, the authentic spiritual path.

The development has attracted attention online, particularly because of his previous role as a Christian pastor and founder of a Christian ministry.

His announcement reflects a wider conversation in parts of Nigeria about the renewed interest in indigenous African spiritual and cultural practices, including Ifá and other aspects of Ìṣẹ̀ṣe.

However, details surrounding when and why Olabanjo decided to leave Christianity were not fully disclosed in the video available online.

The cleric’s announcement has since generated reactions from social media users, with some expressing surprise at his decision and others discussing the place of indigenous spirituality in contemporary Nigerian society.
