Cross River PDP Faction Reaffirms Julius Udayi as Authentic Governorship Candidate with facts

Written by calabarGist

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction backing Julius Udayi in Cross River State has reaffirmed him as the party’s authentic governorship candidate, following the recent Court of Appeal ruling on the PDP leadership and governorship candidacy in Osun State.

The group made the declaration during a press briefing after concluding its consultations across the 18 Local Government Areas of Cross River State, saying the exercise was aimed at clarifying the party’s position and addressing what it described as confusion over the authentic PDP candidates in the state.

According to the group, the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja on August 13, 2026, upheld the nomination of Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola as the authentic PDP governorship candidate for Osun State.

The group said the ruling reinforced its position that the Tanimu Turaki-led PDP leadership is the legitimate structure under which Julius Udayi was nominated and presented as the PDP governorship candidate for Cross River State, alongside other candidates associated with his team.

Julius Udayi Remains Our Candidate — Group

The Cross River PDP group said it was using the latest court development to “set the records straight” and inform party members, Cross Riverians and security agencies about its position on the governorship contest.

It maintained that Udayi and other candidates produced by the Turaki-led structure remain the authentic PDP candidates in Cross River State.

The group also expressed concern over the activities of another faction which, according to the statement, continues to parade individuals as PDP candidates in the state.

Appeal to Security Agencies

The group called on security agencies in Cross River State, particularly the state’s Chief Security Officer, to monitor what it described as parallel political activities by rival factions.

It warned that continued activities by competing groups claiming the PDP structure could create confusion and potentially lead to tension or a breach of peace if not properly managed.

The group urged all political actors and their supporters to remain peaceful and operate within the law.

Group Accuses Rival Faction of Disrupting PDP Unity

The group also alleged that some individuals associated with the faction led by Senator Professor Sandy Onoh were acting under the influence of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

It accused the rival faction of attempting to undermine the Turaki-led PDP structure in Cross River State.

The allegations are contained in the group’s statement and have not been independently established.

The group further urged Cross Riverians not to be distracted by what it described as competing claims to the PDP structure, insisting that its consultations across the state’s 18 LGAs had strengthened its resolve to move forward with Julius Udayi as its governorship candidate.

Call for Support

The group appealed to PDP members and Cross Riverians to remain calm and support the party structure it described as the legitimate leadership of the PDP.

It reaffirmed its commitment to the Tanimu Turaki-led PDP and called for unity, peace and cooperation among party members across Cross River State.

The group concluded by reaffirming Julius Udayi as its governorship candidate and calling on Cross Riverians to support the party as it prepares for the forthcoming political contests.
