Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has led a delegation to Canada as Ibom Air takes another major step in its plan to expand and modernise its fleet.
Eno, alongside state government officials and members of the airline’s management team, visited the Airbus production facility in Mirabel, Quebec, for the pre-delivery inspection of Ibom Air’s third Airbus A220-300 aircraft.
The inspection is an important stage in the aircraft acceptance process before the plane is formally delivered and eventually deployed for commercial operations.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Group Manager, Marketing and Communication of Ibom Airlines Limited, Aniekan Essienette, the exercise represents another milestone in the airline’s fleet modernisation and growth strategy.
The statement said the inspection would enable the airline and other stakeholders to assess the aircraft before its formal acceptance and delivery.
The latest development is expected to further strengthen Ibom Air’s capacity as the airline works towards expanding its network, increasing flight frequencies and improving connectivity for passengers.
Ibom Air has been progressively expanding its Airbus fleet. The airline received its first brand-new Airbus A220-300 in November 2023, while a second A220-300, acquired from Carlyle Aviation, arrived in August 2024.
The airline had earlier placed a firm order for 10 Airbus A220-300 aircraft as part of its long-term fleet expansion strategy. Airbus’ 2026 customer data also lists Ibom Air with 10 A220-300 orders.
The A220-300 is designed for the 100-to-160-seat market and is equipped with modern technology aimed at improving fuel efficiency, passenger comfort and operational performance. Airbus says the A220 family has a range of up to 3,600 nautical miles (6,700 kilometres).
With the latest pre-delivery inspection in Canada, attention now shifts to the formal delivery and eventual entry of the third Airbus A220-300 into Ibom Air’s commercial operations.
