The Founder of The New Seraph Evangelical Ministries Worldwide and Iya Aladura General, Dr Oluwaseye Yomi-Sholoye, has called on church leaders across Nigeria to remain non-partisan and protect the spiritual integrity of the church.
Yomi-Sholoye made the call during the eighth edition of the Night of Divine Experience, held in Ogun State on Friday.
The cleric cautioned religious leaders against turning the pulpit into a platform for political endorsements, stressing that the church should remain focused on its spiritual responsibilities.
According to her, the church has a duty to proclaim biblical truths, promote justice and provide moral and spiritual guidance to everyone, regardless of political affiliation.
She noted that openly endorsing political candidates or parties could undermine the neutrality of religious institutions and create divisions among worshippers.
Yomi-Sholoye urged church leaders to use their influence to encourage responsible citizenship, peaceful participation in democratic processes and the pursuit of justice rather than campaign for particular political interests.
She also encouraged Christians to exercise their civic responsibilities by making informed choices during elections while maintaining respect for people with different political views.
The cleric stressed that the church must remain a place where people from different backgrounds can seek spiritual direction without feeling pressured to support a particular political party or candidate.
She called on religious leaders to uphold the values of integrity, fairness and accountability as the country prepares for future political activities.
Her comments come amid growing debates over the involvement of religious institutions and clerics in Nigeria’s political affairs.
Yomi-Sholoye maintained that preserving the independence of the church would help religious leaders retain public trust and continue serving as moral voices in society.
