2027 Hajj: NAHCON Raises Alarm Over ‘Special Slot’ Scam
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has warned intending pilgrims and Hajj tour operators to be wary of individuals demanding money in exchange for guaranteed or “special” slots for the 2027 Hajj pilgrimage.
The commission issued the warning in a statement by its management on Saturday, following reports that some individuals posing as NAHCON agents or staff had been contacting tour operators and prospective pilgrims.
According to the commission, the suspected fraudsters have been demanding various sums of money, claiming such payments would secure guaranteed Hajj slots or special allocation for the 2027 pilgrimage.
NAHCON described the demands as fraudulent and urged members of the public not to fall victim to such schemes.
The commission stressed that no individual, agent, tour operator or other person has been authorised to collect any money as a “facilitation fee” or additional payment for securing a special Hajj slot.
It advised intending pilgrims and tour operators to exercise caution and verify any information concerning Hajj allocation through official NAHCON channels before making payments.
NAHCON further warned that anyone who pays money to unauthorised individuals based on promises of special consideration does so at their own risk.
The commission urged the public to report suspicious approaches or requests for payment connected to the 2027 Hajj exercise to the appropriate authorities.
The warning comes as preparations for the 2027 Hajj pilgrimage continue, with NAHCON emphasising the need for transparency and adherence to approved procedures in the allocation of Hajj slots.
