Osun Poll: What Najeem Salaam Said After Adeleke’s Victory

The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the Osun State governorship election, Najeem Salaam, has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election, saying the outcome of the poll reflects the will of the people.

Salaam, in a congratulatory message to Adeleke, said the decision of Osun voters must be respected regardless of political differences.

He described the election as a demonstration of democracy, noting that voters had been given the opportunity to make their choice through the ballot.

“I warmly congratulate His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election as the Governor of Osun State. At the end of the day, the choice of the people must prevail,” Salaam said.

He added that democratic contests would naturally involve different choices, opinions and political competition, but the decision of the electorate should ultimately be respected.

“In any democratic process, there will always be choices, contestation and differing views, but what matters most is that the people are given the opportunity to decide. Today, they have exercised that right, and their decision deserves our respect and support,” he said.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke, the Accord Party candidate, winner of the August 15 governorship election.

Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 444,815 votes. The incumbent governor also won in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas.

Salaam’s congratulatory message comes amid calls for political leaders and stakeholders to respect the outcome of the election and support peaceful democratic processes in the state.

The ADC candidate’s position adds to a series of congratulatory messages that have followed Adeleke’s victory as he prepares to begin another four-year term in office.
