Online Publishers Mourn Former GOCOP President Dotun Oladipo
The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) has mourned the death of its former president and publisher of The Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo.
Oladipo died on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the age of 56, leaving colleagues and members of Nigeria’s media community to mourn his passing.
In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by its Publicity Secretary, Kemi Yesufu, GOCOP described Oladipo as one of the publishers who played an important role in the growth and development of the guild during its formative years.
Oladipo served as president of GOCOP from 2017 to 2021. Before venturing into digital publishing, he built a career in traditional journalism, working as a journalist and editor.
He later brought his extensive newsroom experience into online publishing through The Eagle Online, where he served as publisher.
The guild said his contribution to the development of online journalism and his leadership within the organisation would be remembered by members and colleagues.
GOCOP expressed condolences to Oladipo’s family, friends, colleagues and the wider media community, while acknowledging his contributions to Nigeria’s evolving digital media landscape.
His death has sparked tributes among journalists and online publishers who described him as a significant figure in the development of professional online publishing in Nigeria.
