2027: 35-year-old Adebisi makes bold claim about Nigeria presidency

Written by Mary Bassey

The presidential candidate of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), Moses Adebisi, has declared that he is set to become Nigeria’s youngest president if elected in the 2027 general election.

Adebisi, who described himself as a 35-year-old Harvard University PhD candidate, made the declaration during an interview on Arise Television on Thursday.

The DLA candidate said his decision to enter the presidential race was driven by his desire to provide a different political direction for Nigeria and offer an alternative to the country’s established political order.

He explained that Nigerians had repeatedly encouraged him to move beyond his empowerment and civic activities and take a more direct role in politics.

Adebisi’s emergence as the DLA presidential candidate followed a substitution primary conducted by the party, with former candidate Samuel Memeh stepping aside to pave the way for him. The party subsequently presented Adebisi with his Certificate of Return in Abuja.

Speaking about his ambition, Adebisi said he believes his age, experience and exposure can help bring a fresh approach to governance.

He has also positioned himself as a candidate focused on tackling insecurity, poverty, economic hardship and unequal access to national resources.

The DLA has said its political agenda is centred on ethical leadership, justice, inclusion, innovation and people-focused governance.

Adebisi’s ambition comes as political parties and presidential hopefuls intensify preparations for the 2027 general election, with the DLA seeking to present itself as an alternative political platform.

If elected at 35, Adebisi would make history as Nigeria’s youngest elected president, although that outcome would depend on the result of the 2027 presidential election.
