The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State appears to have made significant progress in resolving internal disagreements among some of its House of Assembly aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party’s House of Assembly Reconciliation Committee said aggrieved aspirants had agreed to put their differences aside and work with the party’s leadership towards securing victory in the 2027 elections.
The Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Mufutau Adisa, disclosed this on Sunday during a stakeholders’ meeting and press conference held at the International Conference Centre, Ibadan.
Adisa said the committee had engaged the affected aspirants individually, giving them an opportunity to present their grievances over the outcome of the party’s recent primaries.
According to him, the aspirants subsequently agreed to accept the party’s decisions and prioritise the collective interest of the APC over their individual ambitions.
The committee’s Co-Chairman, Aare Abisoye Fagade, while presenting the communiqué, said the majority of the aspirants had demonstrated maturity, sportsmanship and commitment to the unity of the party.
He said the reconciled aspirants had pledged to work with the party’s leadership and support APC candidates across the Senate, House of Representatives and Oyo State House of Assembly in the 2027 elections.
They also pledged their support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and the emergence of the APC’s Oyo State governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli.
The reconciliation effort followed complaints and protests by some aspirants over the outcome of the party’s primaries, prompting the APC leadership to establish reconciliation committees to address the grievances and prevent internal divisions from affecting its chances in 2027.
Speaking at the meeting, Alli welcomed the development and described the reconciliation as a sign of progress within the party.
He assured the aspirants that their contributions would not be ignored, promising an inclusive approach if elected governor.
Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, Co-Chairman of the Oyo APC Gubernatorial Reconciliation Committee, also urged members to put their differences behind them and work towards strengthening the party ahead of the elections.
The latest development is expected to further strengthen the APC’s efforts to present a united front in Oyo State as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify.
