The Bassey Akiba Foundation has commenced the screening and documentation of beneficiaries for its Education Support Programme for tertiary institution students in Calabar.
The documentation exercise is taking place at the Constituency House, close to Akim Market, ahead of the commencement of the education support programme.
The initiative is championed by Rt. Hon. Bassey Akiba, Member of the House of Representatives representing Calabar Municipal/Odukpani Federal Constituency.
583 Students to Benefit
The education support programme is scheduled to run from Monday, August 31, to Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the Constituency House.
A total of 583 beneficiaries are expected to benefit from the programme, comprising both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Speaking during the ongoing documentation exercise, the Chairman of the programme, Dr. Nsagha Osaji, Head of the Department of Human Kinetics and Sports Science at the University of Calabar, explained that the initiative is open to residents of Calabar Municipal and Odukpani, irrespective of their state of origin or local government area.
Screening Open to Eligible Residents
Dr. Osaji said the education support initiative is an existing project of the Bassey Akiba Foundation and urged applicants who received text messages or emails inviting them for the exercise to report to the designated location for physical screening and documentation.
He explained that the screening criteria remain consistent with the requirements earlier published online.
According to him, physical presence is required for the documentation and verification process.

Dr. Osaji also commended Rt. Hon. Bassey Akiba for sustaining the education support initiative and fulfilling his commitment to supporting students in his constituency.
He noted that the continuation of the programme demonstrates the lawmaker’s commitment to education and human capital development.
The initiative is expected to provide financial support to selected tertiary institution students and ease some of the educational challenges faced by undergraduate and postgraduate beneficiaries.
