Candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions will pay ₦4,000 only once to verify their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) or O’Level results, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have clarified.
The two examination bodies made this known in a joint statement issued on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, following consultations on the recently introduced WASSCE/O’Level Result Verification Service.
Under the new arrangement, candidates whose admissions are regulated and coordinated by JAMB will verify their WAEC results once through the JAMB-provided verification platform.
After the verification is completed, JAMB will make the outcome available to the relevant tertiary institution for admission screening, processing and other approved administrative purposes.
JAMB and WAEC stressed that candidates would not be required to pay another verification fee to their chosen institutions after completing the process through JAMB.
The bodies also said WAEC had authorised JAMB to share verified results with relevant institutions, eliminating the need for candidates to repeat the same verification exercise at different institutions.
The new arrangement is expected to reduce the financial and logistical burden on admission seekers by preventing repeated payments and unnecessary trips to tertiary institutions or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.
Candidates can initiate the verification process from home or any location with internet access, according to the joint statement.
JAMB and WAEC urged admission seekers to take advantage of the verification service and complete the process once, noting that the verified results would subsequently be available to the relevant institution.
The agencies said the collaboration was aimed at simplifying the admission process, reducing unnecessary costs and protecting the integrity and security of candidates’ academic records.
