A woman has been apprehended by environmental officials in Ogun State after she was captured on video dumping refuse into a drainage channel in Sagamu.
The woman was reportedly seen carrying a yellow sack filled with waste before emptying its contents into the drainage while rainfall was ongoing.
The incident was recorded on video and later circulated widely on social media. In the footage, the woman appeared unbothered even after noticing that she was being filmed and confronted over the act.
Following the circulation of the video, the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), in collaboration with Environmental Health Officers of Sagamu Local Government, tracked down and apprehended the woman.
OGWAMA confirmed the development in a post on X on Tuesday, stating that the woman was the person captured in the viral footage dumping waste into the drainage channel.
The authority urged residents to desist from indiscriminate waste disposal and patronise waste collection operators accredited by the agency.
The development comes amid continued efforts by the Ogun State Government to curb improper waste disposal and maintain cleaner communities. Authorities have repeatedly warned that indiscriminate dumping of refuse can create environmental problems, particularly when waste blocks drainage channels during periods of rainfall.
OGWAMA described environmental cleanliness as a shared responsibility and encouraged residents to adopt proper waste disposal practices.
