Tree Falls on Public Transport in Calabar, Injuring Driver and Passengers
A serious accident occurred in Calabar after a tree reportedly fell onto a public transport vehicle, leaving the driver and passengers seriously injured.
According to the driver, he was travelling from Watt to 8 Miles and had dropped off some passengers at Ikot Ansa Bus Stop before picking up other passengers to continue the journey.
He said the incident occurred while he was driving along the road when a tree suddenly fell onto the vehicle, leaving him unconscious.
The driver explained that people who were around the area came to his aid and took him to a nearby pharmacy for treatment. He said that, due to the impact of the accident, he was unable to account for the other passengers who were in the vehicle at the time.
However, according to the people who assisted him, he was assured that no one died in the incident.
The driver has appealed to the government to take action by inspecting and cutting down old and potentially dangerous trees along major highways, particularly during the rainy season.
He warned that old trees could pose a serious threat to motorists and passengers if they fall unexpectedly, especially during periods of heavy rain and strong winds.
