The Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh, has said another term for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would provide an opportunity for the administration to deepen its ongoing programmes and further transform Nigeria.
Momoh made the statement at Nomeh Unateze in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State during the flag-off of a 200-hectare integrated model farm being developed by the South East Development Commission (SEDC) in partnership with the Enugu State Government.
According to the minister, the agricultural project reflects the Federal Government’s focus on food security, regional development, job creation and economic transformation.
“Another opportunity for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu means transformation. Another opportunity means complete transformation of all the things that have been happening,” Momoh said.
He noted that the SEDC initiative was in line with the Federal Government’s agricultural and regional development priorities, describing it as an example of translating government policies into practical projects.
“What you are doing here today is in conformity with the ministry’s policy and the Federal Government’s policy. We are transforming policy into implementation now,” he said.
Momoh also stressed that agricultural development should go beyond cultivating land, saying greater attention must be given to processing, market access, productivity and other parts of the agricultural value chain.
“It is not just sufficient to develop the land, but we must go beyond that to embark on processing,” he added.
The 200-hectare project is the pilot component of the SEDC’s South East Agro-Development Programme. It is designed to combine agricultural production with mechanisation, processing, practical training and market access, with facilities covering areas such as dairy, poultry, fisheries, greenhouse farming and fodder production.
The SEDC said the project is expected to serve as a model for similar agricultural and agro-mechanisation interventions across the five South-East states, while supporting farmers, creating employment and strengthening agricultural value chains.
Momoh commended the SEDC leadership for its approach to regional development and praised its Managing Director and CEO, Mark Okoye, for engaging stakeholders in the planning and implementation of major interventions.
He also commended Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah for providing the land for the project and acknowledged the collaboration between the state government, SEDC and the host community.
The flag-off was attended by Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai, who represented Governor Mbah, SEDC Chairman Emeka Wogu, SEDC Managing Director Mark Okoye, government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders.
