Olori Atuwatse III, wife of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, has spoken about her marriage, fashion choices and the role she plays in shaping her husband’s distinctive style.
The Queen made the revelations during an interview with BBC News Pidgin, where she was asked whether she would accept polygamy if her husband, who has previously said he is not open to the practice, were to change his mind.
Olori Atuwatse III dismissed the possibility, saying she does not expect the monarch to change his position on polygamy.
“First of all, His Majesty no go fit change im mind about polygamy, make we just settle dat one for dia,” she said.
She added jokingly, “Me alone, one me, I be like three women, so I dey alright for am.”
The Queen also spoke about the challenges of sharing her husband’s time with his numerous responsibilities as monarch, noting that his busy schedule sometimes makes it difficult for them to spend enough time together.
Beyond her marriage, Olori Atuwatse III discussed her fashion choices, particularly her signature turban, which has become one of her recognisable style features.
She explained that her decision to cover her hair is personal and connected to her position as Queen of Warri.
“My turban na my crown, na so I dey see am,” she said, explaining that she wears it when she is in “Queen mode” as a way of showing respect for the office she occupies.
According to her, being a queen has not restricted her personal style or fashion choices.
The Queen also revealed that she plays a direct role in her husband’s fashion appearance, saying she is the person behind many of his stylish looks.
“You want make I tell you secret? I be my husband stylist,” she said.
Olori Atuwatse III and the Olu of Warri are widely recognised for their coordinated and distinctive appearances at royal, cultural and public events.
The Queen, who is a lawyer by profession, is also involved in initiatives focused on women’s empowerment and development in the Warri Kingdom and beyond.
