The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has raised the alarm over an individual allegedly posing as a professor and contacting students with claims that he can influence their examination results in exchange for money.
According to the university, the individual identifies himself as “Prof. Odong” and reportedly claims to be a staff member of the institution’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) unit.
The university said the individual has allegedly been contacting students, telling them that their examination results are poor and requesting payment to assist them in improving or facilitating their results.
Preliminary findings by the university’s Security Department, according to Management, indicate that there is no staff member known as “Prof. Odong” serving in the capacity claimed by the individual.
The university further said checks indicated that the person may be operating from Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Management has therefore urged students and members of the university community to disregard any calls, text messages or other communications from the individual, particularly requests for money in connection with examination results or other academic matters.
Students have also been advised not to disclose their personal information, examination details or make payments to anyone claiming to have the ability to alter, improve or facilitate their academic results.
The university stressed that its Management has zero tolerance for unethical practices and would take appropriate action against anyone found involved in such activities.
Students who may have been contacted by the individual have been encouraged to report the communication to the appropriate university authorities for investigation and necessary action.
UNICAL assured students that it remains committed to protecting them and safeguarding the integrity of its academic processes.
