Nigerian Man Lands in Jail After Using 911 to Dodge $63 Lobster Bill in US

Written by Mary Bassey

A Nigerian man has reportedly landed in jail in the United States after allegedly pretending to be ill and calling emergency services in an attempt to avoid paying a $63 restaurant bill.

The incident occurred at a Red Lobster restaurant in Douglas County, Georgia, where the man, identified as Rasheed, had reportedly enjoyed a meal before allegedly refusing to settle the bill.

According to authorities, Rasheed was arrested on September 24 and booked into the Douglas County Jail on allegations of theft of services and unlawful conduct during a 911 call.

He is currently being held on a $3,000 bond.

Law enforcement sources said Rasheed allegedly called 911 after finishing his meal, claiming he was unwell and requesting medical assistance.

Authorities believe the move was an attempt to avoid paying for the food he had consumed.

However, the plan reportedly backfired when emergency responders arrived at the restaurant and found no apparent medical emergency.

Instead of being transported to a hospital for treatment, Rasheed was taken into police custody and subsequently booked into jail.

The incident has drawn attention to the misuse of emergency services, particularly the consequences of making false 911 calls.

While the alleged attempt to avoid a $63 bill may have seemed like a quick escape, it reportedly resulted in an arrest, criminal allegations and a $3,000 bond.

The case serves as a reminder that emergency numbers are meant for genuine emergencies, and misusing them can carry serious legal consequences.
