20 Abducted NYSC Prospective Corps Members Rescued in Imo

Photos of the 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were abducted in Imo State on October 1, 2026, and have now regained their freedom.

The victims were travelling from Ibadan, Oyo State, to NYSC orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom when two buses were attacked along the Owerri-Onitsha Road, near Umunoha in Mbaitoli Local Government Area.

The Nigeria Police Force confirmed that the 20 victims were rescued on Wednesday, October 7, at Amakohia Ubi Village in Owerri West Local Government Area following sustained search-and-rescue operations involving the police and other security agencies. They have since been taken for medical assessment and necessary care.

A joint operation involving the police, military, Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies was involved in the rescue. Authorities are continuing efforts to apprehend those responsible for the abduction.
