Why Hisbah Arrests Six Women in Yobe Operation

Written by Mary Bassey

The Yobe State Hisbah Commission has arrested six women suspected of engaging in prostitution during an enforcement operation in Gadaka, Fika Local Government Area of the state.

The operation was reportedly carried out by officials of the commission’s Fika command in the Abuja area of Gadaka town on Saturday evening.

According to the Head of Administration of the Fika Local Government Hisbah unit, Malam Musa Abari Talba, the exercise was part of efforts to curb activities considered contrary to the state’s religious and societal values.

He said the operation also targeted locations suspected of selling and processing alcoholic drinks.

During the exercise, Hisbah officials reportedly carried out awareness campaigns, advising residents to avoid activities considered harmful to the community and urging them to comply with relevant laws.

The commission said its activities are aimed at promoting peace, discipline and good moral conduct across the state.

The six women remain suspects at this stage, and the allegations against them have not been established by a court.

The Hisbah authorities also indicated that similar enforcement and awareness operations would continue in different parts of Yobe State.
