The Vice-Chancellor of the newly established Akwa Ibom State University of Education, Afaha Nsit, Prof. Philip Afaha, has said the institution will play a major role in transforming the state’s education sector.
Afaha stated this on Thursday during the university’s first interactive session with members of its community.
According to him, the institution is positioned to produce graduates with the knowledge, skills and practical experience needed to compete in a rapidly changing global economy.
The pioneer Vice-Chancellor said the university would focus on quality teacher education, innovation, research and skills development while responding to the changing needs of the education sector.
He added that the institution would work towards creating an academic environment that encourages collaboration among students, staff and other stakeholders.
Afaha also called on members of the university community to contribute to the development of the institution as it begins operations and works towards achieving its academic objectives.
The interactive session provided an opportunity for members of the university community to engage with the management and discuss issues relating to the institution’s development and future direction.
The Akwa Ibom State University of Education is expected to strengthen teacher training and contribute to the development of the state’s human capital as it grows into a full-fledged academic institution.
