Tension in Bayelsa as Diri Imposes 24-Hour Curfew on Community

Written by Mary Bassey

The Bayelsa State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Biseni community in Yenagoa Local Government Area following a breakdown of law and order.

Governor Douye Diri announced the directive on Friday, October 9, 2026, with the restriction taking immediate effect.

The decision followed security briefings on the situation in the community, where some individuals reportedly barricaded roads leading into and within Biseni and set bonfires, disrupting movement and raising security concerns.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah.

According to the statement, Diri directed security operatives to take necessary measures to restore peace and normalcy in the affected community.

The governor also urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding while security agencies work to contain the situation and protect lives and property.

The curfew is intended to help restore order and prevent further escalation of the unrest.

However, the government’s statement did not provide further details about the immediate cause of the incident or indicate whether any arrests had been made as of the time of reporting.

Residents are expected to comply with the directive as security operatives work to restore normalcy in Biseni.
