Eight suspects have been charged to court in connection with the disappearance of a one-year, 10-month-old girl, Amarachi Blessing Ogbonna, from a church premises in Bayelsa State.
The child reportedly went missing on June 21, 2026, while at the church premises, prompting the Bayelsa State Police Command to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, the Violent Crime Response Unit took over the investigation from the Ekeki Division following a directive from the Commissioner of Police.
The police said the development was part of efforts to unravel what happened to the child and establish the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
Following the investigation, eight suspects were charged to court in connection with the case.
The command did not disclose the identities of the suspects or provide details of the specific charges filed against them in the statement.
The police said investigations into the case are ongoing as efforts continue to establish the whereabouts of Amarachi Blessing Ogbonna.
The development comes amid continued calls for swift investigations into cases involving missing children and for all relevant individuals to assist authorities in providing information that could help locate missing persons.
